What is the easiest way to increase my points?
For most applicants, English. Going from Competent (IELTS 6) to Proficient (IELTS 7) adds 10 points, and from Proficient to Superior (IELTS 8) adds another 10 — a possible 20-point swing from one test. A state or regional nomination (5 or 15 points) is the next biggest lever.
What is the difference between subclass 189, 190 and 491?
189 (Skilled Independent) needs no nomination and gives permanent residence directly. 190 (Skilled Nominated) requires a state nomination and adds 5 points. 491 (Skilled Work Regional) requires regional nomination or eligible family sponsorship, adds 15 points, and is a provisional visa that can lead to PR.
Does a job offer give me points?
Not directly in the points test. Australian skilled work experience gives points, and a state/regional nomination gives points — but a plain overseas job offer does not add to your score. Employer-sponsored visas are a separate pathway that skips the points test.
Is age counted at application or at invitation?
Your points — including age — are assessed at the time of invitation, not when you lodge your EOI. If you are close to an age bracket boundary (for example turning 33 or 45), lodging and getting invited before your birthday can matter a lot.
