Assessment Item Writer/Editor (Contract) in the USA

Instructure is seeking freelance Assessment Writers and Editors for remote contract work within the media and education field. This entry-level contractor position requires a Master's degree and zero to two years of experience. Compensation is market-competitive and structured on a per-project basis with flexible, variable hours negotiated per project.

In this role, you will help develop products like Mastery View Predictive Assessments, Mastery View College Prep Assessments, and Mastery Item Banks. Responsibilities include working independently and with the assessment content team to create, review, format, and revise test items and assessments to meet deadlines and align with state standards.

Candidate Requirements

• Master's degree
• 0-2 years of experience
• Professional assessment writing and/or editing experience, including authoring tech-enhanced items in an assessment management system
• Ability to write K-12 student assessment items with an understanding of Depth of Knowledge, rigor, text complexity, and readability
• Subject-matter expertise in ELA, math, science, or social studies
• Deep knowledge of academic standards and assessment design
• Experience in education or working with educational publishers (former teaching experience is a plus)
