Security Engineer, Detection and Response Job Opening in the USA
OpenAI is seeking an entry-level Security Engineer, Detection and Response to join the team in the USA. This role requires a Primary / Matric education level and 0-2 years of experience. The salary is market competitive. In this position, you will help protect OpenAI's sensitive assets, including customer data, intellectual property, and supporting infrastructure.
Core Responsibilities
- Build and evolve Detection and Response capabilities across OpenAI's infrastructure, products, and research environments.
- Engineer detection pipelines, develop rule lifecycle management, and establish measurement and quality loops.
- Automate response and investigations to reduce toil through triage, enrichment, containment, and evidence capture.
- Partner with security teams and infrastructure owners to ensure new systems include proper telemetry, threat models, and response playbooks.
- Define Detection and Response requirements and drive visibility across endpoints, identity, SaaS, cloud, and Kubernetes.
- Evaluate and respond to emergent security concerns within a frontier AI lab environment.
What We Look For
- Hands-on threat detection or incident response experience.
- Understanding of modern adversary tradecraft and the ability to translate TTPs into practical strategies.
- A threat modeling mindset to evaluate new infrastructure and features.
- Experience working in Kubernetes and containerized environments.
- Familiarity with lower-level infrastructure and datacenter risks, cloud platforms, and building automation to replace repetitive work.
