Brain Co. is seeking a Specialty Insurance Underwriter/Coverage Attorney/Consultant/Professional (Contract) for a senior-level finance role based in the USA. This is a contract position requiring a commitment of approximately 2 to 10 hours per week for an initial 3 to 4 months, with potential for extension. The compensation is market competitive.
Role Responsibilities
- Locate and annotate the limits structure within excess policies, including limits, sublimits, retentions, attachment points, and layer stacking.
- Produce structured conclusions on how coverage responds to described scenarios given insuring agreements and exclusions.
- Review AI-generated output, correct mislabeled data, and grade agent performance against seasoned practitioner standards.
- Resolve ambiguous, conflicting, and unusual situations such as manuscript wordings, follow-form excess, and nested exclusions.
- Partner with the team to design scoring criteria and review workflows to measure extraction and coverage accuracy.
- Translate specialty insurance practice into product requirements by explaining terminology, market conventions, and the reasoning behind industry workflows.
- Review real policies, endorsements, and claims documents to provide correct answers for measuring and improving AI performance.
Candidate Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience, with 5+ years strongly preferred, specifically within excess and specialty (E&S) insurance as an underwriter, coverage attorney, counsel, or consultant.
- Deep, hands-on experience in specialty insurance across underwriting, claims, broking, or coverage counsel, or broad multiline experience in General Liability, Professional Liability, and related casualty and specialty lines.
- Ability to read a policy end-to-end, including declarations, forms, and endorsements.
- Must be based in the USA.
