Senior AI Engineer Role in Bulgaria

eMerchantPay is a global payment service provider seeking a Senior AI Engineer to join their AI Engineering team in Bulgaria. This senior individual contributor role focuses on designing, building, and deploying production-grade AI solutions, with a particular emphasis on AI agents, agentic workflows, machine learning, GenAI, and LLM-based applications. You will work alongside the AI Tech Lead, product stakeholders, data teams, and cloud/platform teams to integrate reliable AI capabilities into real-world business systems.

Technical Scope and Responsibilities

The core of this position involves implementing AI solutions using AWS services, specifically Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, and Amazon SageMaker. You will be responsible for building RAG-based solutions—including document ingestion, vector search, and retrieval logic—as well as developing AI agents that interact safely with internal APIs and business workflows.

Your daily work will involve the following technical focus areas:

• Developing applications using Python (FastAPI, Flask, or Django) and React.
• Contributing to ML pipelines and MLOps practices, from model training and experiment tracking to production deployment and monitoring.
• Implementing evaluation approaches for LLM outputs, including hallucination detection, safety, and reliability monitoring.
• Designing scalable, cloud-based backend architectures and consuming APIs.
• Providing technical guidance on AI implementation patterns, code quality, and production readiness.

Required Experience and Qualifications

To be considered for this Senior AI Engineer position, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7-8 years of professional experience in software engineering, AI engineering, ML engineering, data science, or related technical fields. This includes at least 2-3 years of specific experience in AI development and machine learning. You should be comfortable writing clean, maintainable code and staying current with evolving AI frameworks and engineering practices.
