Senior Payroll Specialist Lead - EMEA

Remote is seeking an experienced professional to join the Global Payroll Operations team as a Payroll Specialist Lead. This senior-level accounting role supports the company’s mission to manage international teams compliantly and efficiently. While this position is based in the EMEA region, the organization operates as a fully distributed, asynchronous workforce, allowing for flexibility in how and where you work.

In this role, you will act as the primary subject matter expert for your assigned country, managing key relationships with stakeholders across Finance, Product, and Engineering. Your core responsibilities include executing full end-to-end payroll processing, which involves handling statutory filings, exceptions, approvals, and payments. You will be expected to maintain high levels of data integrity while managing payroll journals and reconciliations. Additionally, you will focus on meeting KPIs and SLAs, implementing process improvements, mentoring payroll specialists, and providing backup support for regional managers.

Required Experience and Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in payroll processing, either in-house or with a service provider.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll best practices and an analytical mindset for problem-solving.
  • Proficiency with software tools, specifically Excel and the Google Suite.
  • Fluent English skills, both written and spoken.
  • A productivity-focused approach and the ability to work effectively in an asynchronous environment.

Remote maintains a global compensation philosophy that offers market-competitive pay based on role, level, and location. Because the company operates internationally, they use geo-ranges to ensure fair, unbiased compensation. The hiring process is also conducted asynchronously and consists of a profile review, a recruiter interview, an interview with the hiring manager, and a "Bar Raiser" interview, followed by a prior employment verification check.
