Senior Software Engineer - Data Platform Role Overview

Samsara is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I for our Data Platform team to build and maintain core analytical infrastructure across the organization. This senior-level IT position is a remote role open to candidates residing anywhere in the USA. The salary for this position is $130,900. Please note that relocation assistance is not provided.

What You Will Do

In this specialized data infrastructure role, you will design, build, and operate reliable, scalable, and secure systems for ingesting, processing, cataloging, and accessing petabytes of data. Your work will support Samsara's data lake, distributed compute platform, and lakehouse data movement.

• Build and operate Spark and Databricks infrastructure, Delta Lake on S3, and data replication from primary stores like RDS and DynamoDB.
• Develop orchestration and metadata services, internal data libraries, and big data infrastructure tooling.
• Enable engineers, data scientists, analysts, and product teams to build customer-facing features, train models, and support AI and analytics roadmaps.

Requirements and Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following baseline educational and professional background standards:

• Education required: Bachelors degree.
• Experience required: 4+ years of professional background.
• Deep experience building and operating production data platforms, distributed systems, or large-scale ingestion infrastructure. (Note: This is not an analytics or business data engineering role focused on SQL modeling, BI dashboards, or ETL tools).
