Senior Staff Software Engineer - STCE, Canada

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our STCE (Smart Trailers and Connected Equipment) team in Canada. We operate as the "innovation machine" within Samsara, functioning with the autonomy of a startup while leveraging the data scale of a global leader. Our Connected Operations™ Cloud helps organizations in agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing harness IoT data to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

In this senior-level IT role, you will be responsible for leading high-impact "Big Rock" projects across Smart Trailers and Connected Equipment, shifting focus based on urgent business needs. We are looking for an engineer who can drive major leaps in architecture and product capability, rather than simply shipping features. You will work in a vertically integrated business unit, making trade-offs across the stack—from battery chemistry to firmware protocols—while prioritizing technical health.

What you will do

• Lead and Innovate: Drive "step function" improvements in product capability and architecture.
• Think like a Product Manager: Engage directly with customers, conduct field interviews, and use metrics to solve real-world pain points without relying on heavy documentation.
• Adopt an AI-first approach: Lead the engineering team in utilizing LLMs and AI to automate routine tasks, allowing for a focus on complex problem solving.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with hardware and firmware teams to optimize systems, such as balancing real-time visibility against energy consumption.
• Mentor and Lead: Guide other engineers in a high-ownership environment where the best idea wins, regardless of title.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must hold a Bachelor’s degree and possess a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. We are looking for individuals with a growth mindset who are comfortable working with a wide range of technologies. The salary for this position is $154,800.
