Staff Engineer, Full Stack (Trust, Safety & Risk) - Remote IT Role

Phantom is seeking a senior-level Staff Engineer, Full Stack (Trust, Safety & Risk) to join our fully remote team operating across the USA, Canada, LATAM, and EMEA. As part of a ~180-person organization backed by a $150M Series C investment from a16z, Sequoia Capital, and Paradigm, you will help safeguard millions of users accessing global financial markets, stablecoins, and tokenized assets.

Core Responsibilities

• Build real-time risk controls and decisioning systems for money movement experiences like ACH, debit cards, and onramps/off-ramps.
• Develop signals, models, and product interventions to detect scams, abuse, and malicious wallets or transactions.
• Create scalable KYC, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and audit infrastructure.
• Build data pipelines combining on-chain activity, product data, and third-party signals into risk insights.
• Design product safety safeguards into new features alongside product and engineering teams.
• Develop internal operational tooling for Risk, Compliance, Support, and Security teams.
• Help establish the technical foundations for this new, high-impact function at Phantom.

Requirements and Background

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (or possess equivalent practical experience) alongside 8+ years of full-time software engineering experience. You should have a background in designing and operating reliable, data-intensive production systems, strong product judgment, and the ability to work across frontend, backend, APIs, data pipelines, and third-party integrations. Proficiency in English and a demonstrated interest in protecting users and building trustworthy financial products are required. Experience with fraud, risk, identity, KYC, AML, sanctions, payments, fintech, or blockchain systems is considered a nice-to-have.
