Mactores is seeking a Database Migration Engineer to join our Engineering team on a senior level, working remotely from anywhere. In this role within our Application & Database Modernization pillar, you will support hands-on database migration work across various client engagements, including Oracle-to-PostgreSQL/Aurora and SQL Server-to-PostgreSQL transitions. Leveraging AWS tooling and our Aedeon agent platform—which absorbs the repetitive discovery and dependency mapping work—you will focus directly on complex technical conversion, testing, and reconciliation tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert SQL, stored procedures, and database objects to PostgreSQL-compatible SQL/PLpgSQL, escalating complex cases to a senior engineer.
- Work through AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) findings and handle AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) monitoring during full load and CDC phases.
- Maintain the Flyway migration codebase, including versioned scripts, repeatable migrations, and rollbacks.
- Identify and troubleshoot database-related application bugs, support PostgreSQL query optimization, and validate data between source and target databases.
- Collaborate with application teams, cloud engineers, and customer stakeholders under lead engineer guidance.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a database developer or engineer with migration exposure.
- Working experience with at least one of: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL / Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Solid SQL skills, query performance tuning understanding, and familiarity with AWS SCT, AWS DMS, Flyway or Liquibase, and PostgreSQL fundamentals.
- Preferred qualifications include familiarity with AWS services (RDS/Aurora, CloudWatch, IAM), automation tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet), IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation), and AWS certifications.
