Engineering Team Leader

Remote is currently hiring a senior-level Engineering Team Leader to work remotely across Europe in the engineering field. Remote is a fully distributed company that helps businesses build international teams while navigating compliance and local labor laws across multiple countries.

About the Role

In this senior engineering position, you will lead a small product team of three to five backend and frontend engineers. Approximately 30% of your time will be dedicated to management tasks—such as hiring, onboarding, continuous feedback, and coaching team members for growth—while the remaining time involves hands-on product shipping alongside your team. You will also help other teams with hiring and act as the voice of your team across the organization. As engineering work shifts toward autonomous agents, you will be expected to build and iterate on agentic and automation workflows, covering everything from spec and planning to execution and verification with proper tests, evals, and guardrails.

Requirements and Background

• Experience managing at least two engineers, even informally
• Deep backend experience, specifically with Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or functional programming generally
• A track record of shipping secure, reliable production systems built to scale
• Demonstrated experience building or adopting agentic and automation workflows
• Systems thinking capabilities, including clear specs, actionable plans, and closed loops
• Solid communication skills and alignment with Remote's values

Education requirements are not specified for this role, though meeting the background criteria is required. The annual salary for this position is 75,450 to 169,700.
