Hims & Hers, the leading health and wellness platform traded on the NYSE as "HIMS," is seeking a senior-level Manager, Material Scientist for a remote management role within the USA. Operating on a talent-first flexible work approach, this position partners closely with the VP of R&D and Innovation to build and lead material science and pre-formulation efforts, bridging early-stage drug concepts with final formulations to support product innovation and growth.
Role Responsibilities and Expectations
- Lead physicochemical characterization of drug substances using XRD, DSC/TGA, Raman spectroscopy, and SEM.
- Evaluate key drug properties including solubility, pKa, logP, and hygroscopicity to inform formulation strategy.
- Design and interpret excipient compatibility studies and manage external partner relationships.
- Perform material risk assessments for critical material attributes (CMAs) and troubleshoot formulation issues.
- Contribute to internal capability building, processes, and best practices in pre-formulation.
Candidate Requirements
- Education required: PhD or specialized diploma (Bachelor's with 10-15+ years, Master's with 5-10+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of relevant R&D and product development experience in Materials Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field).
- Experience required: 10-15 years total professional experience, including 2-5+ years of prior people management experience leading technical teams.
- Strong background in material characterization techniques and analytical methods.
