Medical Director, Clinical Program Design

Wheel is hiring a senior-level Medical Director, Clinical Program Design for a remote management role based in the USA. In this position, you will own the protocols for virtual on-demand, urgent, and convenience care lines while leading and scaling the clinical quality assurance program.

Key Responsibilities for the Medical Director, Clinical Program Design

• Write, update, and scale clinical protocols, integrating them across partners and translating them into platform logic.
• Lead the clinical QA program, utilizing AI to scale and turning findings into actionable network feedback.
• Develop frameworks to track patient and clinical outcomes to continuously improve care.
• Manage clinical patient-safety escalation protocols and active escalations to maintain high clinical standards.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must hold an MD or DO from an accredited institution and be board-certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine, with primary care experience preferred. The role requires substantial clinical practice experience including virtual care or telemedicine, prior clinical leadership managing teams directly in telehealth or digital health, hands-on clinical quality assurance experience, and protocol authoring experience. Candidates need basic proficiency with AI tools, an active medical license in good standing in one or more states, and the ability to pass NCQA credentialing and background checks.

Salary and Benefits

The pay range for this remote USA position is $250,000 to $290,000 plus a 15% bonus, with final offers based on experience, education, location, and business considerations.
