Senior System Engineer (m/w/d)

virtual7 GmbH is looking for a Senior System Engineer (m/w/d) for an engineering project in the public sector. This Senior Level role is based in the Homeoffice with a remote work requirement restricted to Germany. The project runs from October 17, 2026, to December 31, 2026, with a project location split between Bonn and Nürnberg, requiring 40 days remote and 5 days on-site. The working language is German, and candidates must be willing to undergo a security clearance process (SÜ2 nach § 9 SÜG Geheim/Sabotageschutz).

Your Mission as a Senior System Engineer

You will work on automating firewalls in an in-house development environment, contributing improvements and applications. Tasks include advancing the Firewall Automation (FWAT) tool, reviewing the current architecture, developing user interfaces for managing firewall rules, and storing rules in a repository for automated cloud deployment. You will also create visual topology representations using algorithms, handle deployment agents and feedback, and complete tasks delivered as Jira stories.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of professional experience
• At least 2 years of project reference experience in Python / FastAPI
• At least 2 years of experience with openAPI and mermaid
• At least 2 years of experience with gitlab / CI/CD
• At least 2 years of experience with nodejs, Vue.js, Vite, tailwindCSS, and Material Design
• At least 2 years of experience with Scrum and Jira
• At least 2 years of experience and knowledge in the firewall environment
